Sientje got into Olympic Weightlifting through CrossFit while she was in law school in Charlotte. She joined in November of her 3L year and once she moved back to Roanoke in the summer, her bar study schedule got in the way of her training. In order to finish the cycle from her box in Charlotte, Sientje went to a lot of open gyms and found most days she ended up just doing the strength portion of the workout. Eventually, Donald (her co-coach) informed her that weightlifting was actually a sport. Sientje signed up for two weightlifting seminars and was hooked.
Her favorite part about coaching is helping athletes to grow physically and mentally. Sientje says, “seeing them hit new PR’s and maxes is fun, but also seeing the mental growth is huge too. So much of weightlifting is mental, so I love being able to help athletes not only grow stronger bodies, but also stronger minds.”
