Sami got started at Brickhouse Crossfit on April 1, 2011, after a friend talked her into trying it out. In addition to her CrossFit Certifications, she has taken multiple gymnastics courses, and has her judges’ certificate.
Her favorite thing about coaching is watching people do things they never thought they’d be able to do. Sami ran her first 5K at the age of 42, completed the Tough Mudder at 43, and ran her first half marathon at 47 – something she never thought she’d be able to do! A little-known fact is that after she started at BHC, she was so intimidated by cleans that she intentionally missed every single day if there was any type of a clean and continued to do this for six months! Finally, she met with one of the coaches for one-on-one training, and it has now become a favorite.
Outside of the box, Sami loves spending time with her family and friends, traveling, shopping, gardening, and spending time outdoors. She has spent over 20 years in law enforcement and hopes to retire in the next few years to spend more time doing the things she loves.
After Sami and her husband, Joe, married, they lived in various places including Tucson, Arizona; Southern California; Charleston, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; before making Roanoke their home. Sami and Joe have three children: Michael (age 28), Emily (age 25), and Parker (age 11). They foster puppies for the SPCA, but currently have two dogs and one cat of their own.
