Become an “Aerobic Finisher”
Written by Neal Jamison, Brickhouse CrossFit Endurance Coach
A couple years ago, back when we were still at the old 310 address, I challenged some of the endurance athletes to start running a short distance immediately after their WODs. The Big 6:30 evening class picked up on it (it’s where a lot of the core endurance athletes were at the time), and before long there was a group that ran a 400m or 800m after every almost every WOD. I call this the Aerobic Finisher. And it does your body good. First, it is a good way to kick off your recovery from the high intensity WOD you have just completed. Second, it will teach you to run on tired legs. If you plan to or currently compete in road races, triathlons, obstacle runs, this will help you. And lastly, it’s a great way to spend some time with friends or make new ones.
After your next WOD, grab a few of your classmates and run to the Christmas tree and back. Take it slow and steady. Try to find a pace at which you can run the entire way. This might be really slow depending on the WOD you just did. Stick together and make it fun. Try it and let me know what you think.
